Get on board with your business
Recreational use of the Hauraki Rail Trail (HRT) is growing every week. If you want to ensure your business grows along with it, get on board and apply for either an Accommodation Provider Agreement or a Concession Agreement with the Hauraki Rail Trail Charitable Trust.
Read more on the Hauraki Rail Trail Website about becoming an Accommodation Partner or a Service Provider.
How do the agreements work?
Forming the basis of a mutually beneficial relationship between local business owners and the Hauraki Rail Trail Charitable Trust, these agreements ensure your business is listed on the official HRT website and give you the legal right to use HRT intellectual property to promote your business activity. In exchange for the privilege of being part of the HRT you are asked to pay a 15% commission to the Hauraki Rail Trail Charitable Trust on all HRT related bookings you receive.
This gives the Trust an income to provide for the maintenance and day to day running of the trail. It also helps ensure the safety and enjoyment of trail users and set accommodation and business standards everyone can have confidence in.

A study performed by Professor Chris Ryan and Mindy Sun of Waikato University in 2013/14 of cyclists that have used the Trail showed -
Use of the Trail has increased approximately 25% from the previous season (based on counter figures).
The net additional expenditure has increased by 16% equating to a net expenditure of NZ$2.1 to $2.4 million, with the main income coming from Aucklanders that choose to stay overnight and spend locally. There is potential that it could get up to NZ$3.3 million.
The cyclists rated the Trail an average satisfaction score of 8.4 out of 10.
The average expenditure of a cyclist remains as for the previous season - approximately $105.00.
Cyclists that live between 100-200km away from the Trail are the highest spenders. They will spend in excess of $200.00 per cyclist in all three categories of accommodation, petrol and refreshments.
