For safety’s sake, only rubbish bags, crates and wheelie bins left on the ground next to the kerb on the morning of the collection day will be picked up by our contractor Smart Environmental.
Bags hung from trees or poles, or left in a cage, will not be collected.
Pest deterrent
It’s been common practice for some of our communities to hang rubbish bags from trees or utility poles, or to place them in a cage at the property edge, to deter pests from ripping them open.
Help us keep staff safe
Unfortunately, some Smart staff have been injured by sharp objects while removing these bags, so they will no longer be collected. To avoid injury, staff need to lift the bags from the top. These staff pick up many hundreds of bags every day and we all need to collectively help them stay safe while they’re doing their job.
Refuse Transfer Stations
So, please place your rubbish bags on the kerbside, on the morning of the collection day. Or, if you’re leaving town before collection day, drop off your rubbish at one of our two Refuse Transfer Stations. For locations and hours go to www.hauraki-dc.govt.nz/services/refuse
We appreciate your understanding
Your efforts and understanding are greatly appreciated by both Smart Environmental and Council.
