Bylaws are rules made by local councils which affect the way we live, work and play. They are there to make our district a safe and healthy place. They can protect the public from nuisance; protect, promote and maintain public health and safety; and minimise the potential for offensive behaviour in public places. We develop them in consultation with our communities.
Our Bylaws are only applicable to the Hauraki District.
They can be enforced by the Council or other nominated agencies, such as the New Zealand Police.

Our standalone bylaws
The purpose of this bylaw is to regulate the consumption or possession of alcohol in specified public places, and for specified days, times and events.
Our cemeteries bylaw includes rules for using cemeteries that we own or are responsible for, and includes Services Cemeteries.
Our drainage bylaw puts controls in place to assist with our drainage activities in rural and urban areas. It helps to protect our stopbanks, flood gates, pumps and drains and includes rules around private drains. It does not apply to any Waikato Regional Council drains or assets.
Our dog control bylaw promotes the control of dogs in public places and on private property to minimise danger, distress, or nuisance caused by the keeping of dogs to the public. It should be read in conjunction with the Hauraki District Council Dog Control Policy.
Our food grading bylaw is to protect and promote public health by requiring food businesses registered with us that operate subject to a Food Control Plan to display a food grading certificate for public information. It contains our criteria for grading food businesses.
Our freedom camping bylaw encourages responsible freedom camping in our district by stating rules for camping in public places. This is to protect areas and the health and safety of people who visit the area.
Our nuisance bylaw contains rules for using our public places and carrying out certain activities on private land, including the keeping of animals and bees.
Our solid waste bylaw contains rules for our kerbside rubbish and recycling collection, and our refuse transfer stations. It also includes some rules designed to protect public health and safety, the safety of our waste contractor, and to minimise nuisance created by storage and spilling of waste.
This bylaw sets the speed limits on public roads in our district (but not state highways).
This bylaw sets rules for moving stock in our district on roads controlled by the Council. Roads controlled by us may include state highways under formal delegation from New Zealand Transport Agency.
Our trade waste and wastewater bylaw contains rules for the disposal of trade waste and discharge of wastewater to our sewerage systems.
This bylaw sets the rules for parking in our district and the control of traffic. It applies to any road in the district (but not state highways).
Our water supply bylaw helps to protect our water supply network and our water sources from contamination. It also contains rules for when you connect or disconnect to our water supply, and allows for water restrictions to be in place during times of drought or emergency.
The purpose of this bylaw is to provide for the management of the wharf facilities that are provided by, owned or controlled by the Council.
