Thorp/Lewis Street Parking
It is proposed to address historic parking safety problems around Central School with a project to provide a total of 9 new parallel parking bays in Thorp/Lewis streets by recessing the kerb line.
The Thorp Street installation will require the removal of a number of trees to which Council Parks and Reserves department have no objection. Verbal consent to this work from the school has been received and formal consent has been requested.
THAT construction of the parking bays be approved but no trees be removed, and that if possible angle parking be constructed on Lewis Street instead of parallel parking.

Tower Street Footpath
A new section of footpath in Tower St is planned and completion has been requested before the winter rains if possible. The project was planned as a non-subsidised improvement capital work. The imminent adoption of the Walking and Cycling strategy make the project a possible candidate for subsidised funding which would save Council 54% of the estimated $15,000 of the project cost.
THAT the Committee notes that subsidised funding for the Towers Street footpath extension is being negotiated.
