The Community Development Officer’s monthly report was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

Request for Funding Assistance – Positive Paeroa: Costs for Installation of Rugby World Cup Flags

The Chairperson advised she had received correspondence from Positive Paeroa requesting funding assistance to cover a shortfall in funding of $800.00 towards the installation of the Rugby World Cup flags in 2011.

It was agreed that $400.00 be granted to them from the Paeroa Ward Discretionary Fund and that they seek funding for the balance from other sources.

RESOLVED

THAT $400.00 is granted to Positive Paeroa from the Ward Discretionary Fund to cover the shortfall of funds towards the installation of the Rugby World Cup flags, and

THAT the Community Services Manager investigates options for the balance of funds from other sources.

The Committee considered this was an opportune time for staff to look at a new system of putting up the flags to reduce the costs.

Resignation of Positive Paeroa – Town Promoter (Annee Harris)

Following the resignation of Annee Harris, Positive Paeroa – Town Promoter, the Ward Committee invited Annee to attend the meeting to receive the appreciation and thanks from the Committee for her commitment and constant hard work she had applied to her role as town promoter. The members all commended Annee for often going ‘beyond the call of duty’ on many occasions and presented her with a bouquet of flowers.

Annee thanked Community Services staff and Council for all the assistance they had provided to Positive Paeroa during her time as town promoter.

Annee said she had enjoyed the role in all its challenges and hoped that her replacement would have the passion to keep promotion of a number of events going in the township and to keep Paeroa on the map as a destination worth visiting

Railway Reserve Upgrades

A member stressed the need to complete the skatepark as it is the entrance to the town. It was asked the following outstanding matters needed follow up.

  • Ensure there is disability access to all play equipment
  • Arrange for graffiti artist
  • Signage on rules of the skatepark 

Criterion Bridge Seating

It was agreed that staff look at replacement seating options with the Chairperson.

Scout Hall Parking

It was agreed Cr Bubb and Cr Milner attend meeting with staff and Scouts for discussion on car park before the next Ward meeting.


Domain Users: Rugby League/Rugby Union

The members requested the Community Services Manager arrange a meeting between staff, Ward Committee members and the two sporting codes regarding the use of the Domain.


Paeroa Information Centre – Monthly Report

It was noted in the report that the centre is receiving negative feedback about the state of the Marshall Street toilets. It was suggested that the Information Centre contact Council when they receive complaints.

It was requested that Margarete Ford be invited to attend when she next submits her monthly report to the Ward Committee.

THAT the Paeroa Information Centre report for the month of June 2012 be received.

Paeroa Town Centre - Gardens

The plans for the upgrade of the Paeroa Town Centre gardens were presented. The prices were indicative only. Councillors had previously seen these plans but formal approval was required.

RESOLVED

THAT the plans for the upgrade of the Paeroa Town Centre gardens be approved.

Future Ward Report Items

The Community Services invited the members if they had additional items they would like to see reported on at the Ward Committee meetings.

The members listed a number of items they wished to have reported as follows:

  • Domain User Group and Positive Paeroa meeting minutes

  • Six monthly site visits to current projects

  • Separate status report on where current projects are at (actions/follow up)

The meeting closed at 1.45pm.
