MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES


Railway Reserve – Storyboard and Seating Project

At the previous meeting, it was agreed that funding for the Storyboard and Seating project come from an alternative source other than the Annual Plan projects budget.

To allow this project to be completed it was suggested that the funding be sourced from the Paeroa Community Facilities and Recreational Development Fund. The members requested staff review the balance of funds in this budget to allow the storyboard and seating project to be completed and that this be reported to the Ward in September.

Town promotion Flags

Councillors asked if Council could consider a cage for the Hiab cherry picker machine to be used for the purpose of changing town flags.


Recent Spate of Graffiti in Paeroa CBD

Cr Milner advised he had met with the Community Constable in Paeroa including affected business owners. The police requested that Council staff collect photos of tagging and send these to the community constable for his record as this helps identify who the taggers are.

The Secretary for the club has written requesting assistance with the costs of presenting their annual fireworks display. The writer advises that this will be their 22nd display at the Paeroa Domain where they have provided good inexpensive family entertainment.

THAT $500.00 is granted to the Paeroa Lions Club from the Paeroa Ward Discretionary Fund in support of their annual fireworks display.

The Deputy Principal of the College has written seeking financial support for a programme that is intended to encourage six students to be actively involved members of our community. Students get to learn in real life contexts while demonstrating the skills they do have rather than focusing on skills they struggle with.

The programme includes an overnight trip to Wellington where the students and teachers will complete some activities that expand their horizons. The writer requests a $2,000 grant towards the cost of the trip.

RESOLVED

THAT $600.00 ($100 per student) is granted to Paeroa College from the Paeroa Ward Discretionary Fund in support of their overnight trip to Wellington as part of the students life skills programme.

LATE ITEMS OF BUSINESS


Request for Financial Assistance: Paeroa Little Theatre (1095945)

A request has been received from the Paeroa Little Theatre seeking funding support towards the purchase of advertising signage to promote their productions.

They request consideration of funding of $1,150.00 to pay for this work.

RESOLVED

THAT the application is declined, and

THAT a letter be written to the group suggesting that they consider the use of electronic marketing as a means to promote their productions.

It was commented that the Ward could consider funding a single sign to be placed on the theatre building for promotion of their productions.

Paeroa 2012/2013 Projects Carried forward


Hutchinson Reserve Concept Plan

It was requested that the Operations Manager - Assets follow up on the status of this project and provide an update to the Ward Committee in September.


Paeroa Town Entrance Renewals

The members commented that the southern entrance to Paeroa is looking excellent and commended the staff involved for their efforts.


Paeroa CBD Hauraki Rail Trail (HRT) Improvement Items

The Operations Manager – Assets spoke to information that had been included in the report which provided an update on the status of HRT enhancement projects undertaken in the Paeroa CBD.


Swimming Pool – Season for 2013/14

Council staff advised of the preferred dates for the swimming club and schools start and finish of the 2013/14 swimming season. The dates are 30 November 2013 to 30 March 2014.

The matter of investigating the resourcing of the pool if the season is to be extended was raised.

The members were informed that user groups have been advised that the season dates have been set as a result of the feedback received from them at the end of the 2012/13 season and budget funds available.


Kennedy Street - Trees

Staff advised of two trees located on the road reserve on the Eastern and Western sides of Kennedy Street. The tree on the western side is currently pushing up the kerb and footpath and is also over the water and storm water lines. The tree on the eastern side, if it were to fall in a storm event would fall onto the adjoining house. It was suggested that the lower limbs of this tree be removed.

Staff informed the Committee they had received an Arborist’s price for the dismantling of these trees at a cost of $1,800 and $1,950.

If approved, it was suggested that a letter drop be undertaken advising other residents of this tree work.

RESOLVED

THAT approval is given for the removal of the tree on the western side and the tree on the eastern side have approximately six lower branches removed, and

THAT more appropriate trees are planted in their place, and

THAT a letter drop is undertaken advising other residents in the vicinity of this tree work.

Karangahake Reserve Development, Council Working Party

This year Council has allocated $517,000 for projects within the Karangahake area. There are a number of considerations that require feedback and direction from the Ward. Staff requested that a working party be established to workshop the scope and outcomes of projects in the Karangahake area.

RESOLVED

THAT a working party be established to develop the project scope and outcomes for projects within the Karangahake area, and

THAT the working party be formed consisting of all Paeroa Ward Committee members.

Cr Thorp (Council Representative on the Karangahake Hall Committee) advised of his attendance at the Committee meeting recently held.


In consideration of the project Cr Thorp will speak with the Community Services Manager for further discussion.


Community Meetings

Cr Bubb spoke on community meetings she had attended in the last month.

Bike Safety Awareness group (involving Sport Waikato, Positive Paeroa, Police and others) would like to place a promotional helmet on top of the L & P bottle to raise awareness of bike safety for a period of two weeks from 16 September – 30 September.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward Committee gives their approval that a promotional helmet is placed on top of the L & P bottle in support of bike safety awareness from 16 September – 30 September 2013.
