MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE PAEROA WARD COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 11 JUNE 2013 COMMENCING AT 12.30PM

Cr Friar, Deputy Chairperson of the Waikato Regional Council (Thames Coromandel) was in attendance to provide a brief update of WRC initiatives and acknowledged Hauraki District’s focus on economic development and their stance on freedom camping.
Cr Friar stayed for the duration of the meeting.
There were no apologies.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
Paeroa Kindergarten – Upgrade of Playground
Cr Adams updated the Committee on his meeting held with the Head Teacher of the kindergarten to discuss the scope of their project. He advised they have a shortfall of funding towards their playground project and seek some assistance from Council.
THAT $500.00 is granted from the Paeroa Ward Discretionary Fund to the Paeroa Kindergarten in support of their playground upgrade project.

The Mayor advised he will consider a contribution from the Mayoral Fund.
Brennan Field – Hauraki Tigers Rugby League Club
At the May meeting, it was requested that a meeting be held with staff, Ward Committee members and the Rugby League Club to discuss the request from the club the Council consider sponsoring a Porta-Loo when the club is hosting home fixtures due to the distance players and supporters have to walk to use the Centennial Park toilets. It was advised that a meeting with the club to discuss the matter has been organised for Friday, 14th June at 1.00pm. Cr Milner will be attending.
The Community Development Officer’s monthly report was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

Requests for Financial Assistance -
Paeroa Volunteer Fire Brigade [1070996, 1071710]
The treasurer for the brigade has written advising that they are in the process of purchasing rescue equipment valued at $9,555.62.
This equipment (airbags) is used in accidents where people are trapped and where access cannot be obtained by normal lifting gear. These bags can be placed between the patient and vehicle with minimal stress to the patient. The writer believes the new and improved equipment will be able to lift heavier weights then the gear they currently have.
The brigade currently has $2,000 to put towards this equipment and seeks financial assistance towards the balance.
THAT $1,600.00 is granted from the Paeroa Ward Discretionary Fund to the Paeroa Volunteer Fire Brigade to assist in the purchase of rescue equipment.

Paeroa ICONZ 4 Girls Unit 
The treasurer of the Bible Chapel has written advising that programmes for girls in the 5 to 18 year age group have been set up in Paeroa by IFG Outreach Ministry. IFG has a vision to provide a life development programme for girls by having adventure programmes that are both skills and values based.
The writer provided a budget that details the initial set up (- $1,547.50) plus year one costs and seeks sponsorship of $400 towards a first aid kit and sporting equipment.
THAT $400.00 is granted from the Paeroa Ward Discretionary Fund to the Paeroa ICONZ 4 Girls Unit towards the purchase of a first aid kit and sporting equipment.

LATE ITEM OF BUSINESS
REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (CDV-30-100/01)
Paeroa Community Support Trust 
The Chair and Treasurer has written seeking financial assistance for the Trust.
Over the past 17 years the Trust has built a solid foundation of respect and social capital with a wide variety of activities that serve the community.
This year the Trust has experienced some external factors that have impacted their finances. Donor organisations have reduced funding including limiting wage funding. Dates to receive funding have also changed from June to October creating a cash flow issue for the next 3 months. The Trust intends to continue their work in the community without interruption or cutting back on services.
The writers request that Council consider assisting the Trust with a one-off donation to cover their costs from July - September when further funding is expected.
THAT the correspondence be received, and
THAT request is declined, and
THAT it be recommended to the applicants that they apply to the Contestable Social Fund.

Hutchinson Reserve Development – Concept Plan
Staff advised that Councils contractor is presently working on the concept plan for the development of Hutchinson Reserve. It was commented that staff ensure that the Paeroa Lions be included to assist with this project.
Paeroa CBD Renewals – Main Street Promotional Brackets
Staff advised that a meeting is to be held with Ward committee members on 20th June to look at new promotional brackets for the main street from a supplier. The bracket allows flags to be changed easily without the need of road closure and lifting equipment
Walkway Lighting – Fire Station to King Street
The pricing and options for the lighting of the walkway is still being finalised. The Parks and Reserves Manager advised that to date he has received only one price which he will present to the Committee at the meeting in July.
Hauraki Rail Trail - Bike Racks in Paeroa CBD
The Community Services Operations Manager provided a number of bike rack options and costs which will be taken to the next BA5 meeting for consideration.
The members commented that directional signage for the Rail Trail within the town was poor and causing confusion for cyclists. It is intended that this matter will be discussed at the next BA5 meeting.
It was advised that Rail Trail signage into town will be completed by Wednesday next week.
