MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE PAEROA WARD COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 15 JULY 2014 COMMENCING AT 12.30PM

THAT the apology for absence of Cr D A Adams and for the lateness of His Worship the Mayor be received and sustained.

INVITED SPEAKER: PAEROA MARITIME PARK & MUSEUM
Gloria James from Paeroa Maritime Park & Museum gave a presentation on the activities of the organisation and presented the members with the museum’s new logo.
Mrs James raised how important it was that the Maritime Park & Museum collaborate with Council in developing the new wharves for the Park and Wharf Street.
The members agreed that Council and in particular the Paeroa Ward Committee needed to work closely with the Paeroa Maritime Park & Museum to progress construction of a wharf in town to link with the facilities at the Maritime Park.
It was suggested that a meeting be organised in the near future for discussions on this development.

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Paeroa Ward Committee held on Tuesday 10 June 2014 are confirmed and are a true and correct record.

Replacement of Melia Tree Sister City Commemoration Sculpture Site – Cr Hauraki House and Belmont Road
The Chairperson raised her disappointment that the replacement tree planted at the corner of Hauraki House and Belmont Road to mark the sister city commemoration is too small and needs to be replaced with a larger specimen tree as she considered this is a focal point for the sculpture and the building.
Hauraki Long Term Plan – Short Term Matters/Issues/Proposals
The Councillors reviewed the key points included in the Hauraki Long Term Plan short term list of actions put together by the Strategic Planner at the June meeting following consideration of key issues raised by local communities at the LTP pre-consultation meetings.
The District Engineer and Roading Manager reported on a request seeking permission to establish a road side business at the north western corner of Te Aroha Road (SH26) and Normanby Road (SH2).
THAT the report be received, and
THAT the application for the use of the footpath area on the north western corner of the SH2/SH26 intersection be declined.
