Waihi Street Addresses in Google Maps

Earlier this year HDC completed the “Waihi – Your Street Changes” project in Waihi where we renamed some roads and renumbered some addresses. This project was planned well and in time for the rollout date being met on the 1st of March 2016.

HDC are the custodians of local roads and addresses we informed a number of key businesses, for example LINZ, AA Maps, Wises, Garmin, NavMan, and Google Maps, and provided most of them with the newly changed data.

googlemapsThe only company to not accept the data was Google. Google informed the council that their process for receiving spatial map data was to use their online tools which allow you to add and change roads and addresses.

Unfortunately, this process is set up to handle individual road and address changes and not well equipped to handle high volumes due to its questionable approval and rating system for each change lodged.

As a result, the council is working with Google to fix this issue. In the interim the council has provided a number of downloadable maps as well as the new search facility on our new Web Maps Application. This new system lets you search for the old Waihi address and will list and map the new address.
