Background
Agrecovery is a voluntary product stewardship programme for the sustainable recovery of triple rinsed agriculture and forestry sector plastic containers. The nationwide initiative was officially launched in Nelson on 19th April 2007 by the hon. David Benson-Pope, Minister for the environment.
“The new recycling scheme is leading the way in making New Zealand the first sustainable country in the world”, Environment Minister David Benson-Pope said. The Minister congratulated the scheme developers for providing growers, farmers, foresters, and other primary industry chemical users with an environmentally safe way of disposing of their unwanted plastic containers.
Agrecovery is supported by participating agrichemical brand owners, rural retailers, regional and district councils and primary industry. This nationwide collection and processing scheme is financed by a levy collected by participating brand owners and paid to the Agrecovery foundation to deliver the programme.
