The Community Development Officer’s monthly report was presented for the Committee’s consideration.


Requests for Financial Assistance [CDV-30-100]


Waihi Community Resource Centre [927060]

The Community Development Worker for the society requests that Council allow the development of a demonstration garden on the grassed road reserve next to their building. This will be for an initial trial period of 12 months.

The Society plans to use the community gardening network to share ideas, resources, time and skills to encourage food sustainability with a small but functional vegetable garden on this reserve. Construction, labour, maintenance plus restoring the reserve back to its original state will be the responsibility of the society. A safety plan and strategy for pedestrians using that area of the road was not provided. They ask that Council become a partner of the Community Gardening Network.

RESOLVED

THAT the Community Development monthly report be received, and

THAT the correspondence from Waihi Community Resource Centre be received, and

THAT the request from the Waihi Community Resource Centre wishing to develop a community garden on the grassed road reserve next to their building be approved.

Thames Valley Embroiderers Guild (Waihi)

The Chairperson presented a letter of thanks from the Thames Valley Embroiderers Guild (Waihi) thanking the Ward Committee for the grant of $500.00 in support of their NZ History Project.

ANNUAL PLAN PROJECTS 2012/13


Waihi Walkway Development - Waihi Ohinemuri Walkway Black Bridge

It was reported that $145,000 has been budgeted for the Black Bridge development in Waikino.

In view of the recent severe weather conditions, it was agreed that it would be beneficial that the Mayor, Community Services Manager, Rail Trail – Principal Project Manager and the Waihi Ward members meet to review the proposed route of the tracks from Waikino to Waihi.


Waihi Performing Arts Society – Refund

The Waihi Performing Arts Society are requesting a refund for payment of timber that had to be purchased for the replacement of purpose built equipment that they had stored in the basement of the Waihi Memorial Hall. The timber was damaged when the basement of the building was flooded.

A price for the timber has been received from Mitre10, Waihi for $224.62.

Cr Baker asked that the Community Services Manager investigate the flooding issue in the basement of the hall.

RESOLVED

THAT $224.62 is granted to the Waihi Performing Arts Society to cover the cost of purchasing timber to replace their water damaged purpose built equipment.

Signage - Speed Limit Reduction in area entering Waihi from Paeroa SH1

Cr Baker requested that staff investigate the installation of a speed reduction signs at the entrance to Waihi similar to what they have used in Paeroa and Ngatea as provided by NZTA.


Protective UV Covers for Pool Covers

Cr Mclean asked that staff investigate the purchase of protective covers for the pool covers due to them becoming damaged from being exposure to the sun.


Community Halls

The Mayor suggested that staff and Councillors meet with communities to discuss plans for the halls and to find out what their needs are e.g. facilities with the halls such as kitchens, toilets etc.


Councillor’s feedback from their attendance at Community Meetings

The Chairperson asked the members if they could provide a brief update on any community meetings they have attended to future Ward meetings.

The meeting closed at 3.15pm.
