MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE PLAINS WARD COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 10 AUGUST 2010 COMMENCING AT 9.10 AM

THAT the apology of Cr D E Challis be received and sustained.

COMMUNITY POLICING UPDATE
Police Officer, Andrew McCowatt (Plains area) was in attendance to liaise on community policing matters.
Matters noted were:
Problem with ‘P’ use in the Plains area
A Civil Defence team has been organised in Ngatea with emphasis on welfare.
The bylaw to prohibit heavy vehicles parking within the Plains urban area is working effectively.
There have been no problems caused by the introduction of the skate park.
CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES
THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Plains Ward Committee held on Tuesday 13 July 2010 are confirmed and are a true and correct record. .

The Community Services monthly report on activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.
THAT the Community Services monthly report be received.

"WELCOME TO THE DISTRICT" SIGNS
The Community Development Officer presented a follow up from the report presented to the Council meeting on the 29th July 2010. The outcome from that meeting was that each Ward is to identify what is to happen with each of the signs within their ward.
It was agreed that any additions to the current signs are addressed by the Committee established at the previous Council meeting.
THAT all current signs within the Plains Ward be refurbished; and
THAT the Miranda Road sign be relocated to the new site on East Coast Road; and
THAT a new sign be placed at the western entrance to Kaiaua Road.

The foundation levels for the new playground equipment were proven to be incorrect and will be fixed at the cost of the contractor.
Domain Users Meeting
It was requested that Hadley Dryden, Media and Marketing Manager of Tourism Coromandel be approached to discuss what initiatives the Plains Ward could consider to attract tourists during the Rugby World Cup 2011.
The meeting closed at 10.10am.
