Gilmour Lake Reserve – Miners Reflective Area

Recently Council’s Community Services Manager met with members of the Waihi Historic Society and Councillors to consider a request to plant a grove of Kowhai trees in memory of Miners who had lost their lives while working underground. The Waihi Historic Society has been gifted twenty-nine Kowhai trees to honour these workers;

The agreement at this meeting was to have a tree lined pathway from the George Street entrance along either side of the roadway / pathway towards the lakes stage.

It was decided that the Waihi Councillors and the Parks and Reserve Manager along with Kit Wilson (from ??? have another look at where to plant the kowhai trees as there was uncertainty that this was the best place to plant them.
