MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE PLAINS WARD COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 12 FEBRUARY 2013 COMMENCING AT 9.00 AM

CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY 11 DECEMBER 2012 (996918)

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Plains Ward Committee held on Tuesday 11 December 2012 are confirmed and are a true and correct record.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES


Ngatea Town Gardens

Cr Gordon made comment on the state of the gardens in Pioneer Park. He considered the dead weeds that had been sprayed needs to be removed from the gardens.

Cr Challis commented that Pioneer Park and gardens were presented well at a recent function he had officiated at.

The Parks and Reserves Manager will look at maintenance of the gardens. 


Machine for CBD Pavement Sweeping

Staff advised that the performance of the machine is presently being trialed on a 3 month lease basis.

Cr Gordon requested the annual budget figure be provided for pavement sweeping and cleaning.

The Operations Manager – Assets advised that he will find out what the budget figure is for pavement cleaning and provide it to the Committee at the next meeting.


Ray’s Rest Reserve - Camping Bylaw

The Parks and Reserves Manager advised there has been an exceptional amount of people using the site over this summer period. As a result, there has been some conflict with boaties and campers.

Temporary signs were used over summer and have worked well.

Staff suggested permanent signage be installed to show designated areas for boat parking and overnight camping.

The Parks and Reserves Manager is working with Boat Club at the present time to discuss where signage should be installed to define these areas. The cost of signage will be provided from the Kaiaua Reserves Account. Staff will seek costs for this signage.

Requests for Financial Assistance [CDV-30-100]


Hauraki Returned Services Association Inc [1008503]

The secretary/treasurer for the association writes seeking funds for the repair of the RSA building roof.

The association has received quotes ranging from $14,000 to $22,000 to repair the roof.

RESOLVED

THAT the Community Development monthly report be received, and

THAT the correspondence from the Hauraki Returned Services Association Inc. be received, and

THAT $500.00 is granted from the Plains Ward Discretionary Fund to be matched by Mayoral Fund.

Patetonga Public Toilets – Upgrade

Staff advised that the Community Facilities Manager has been speaking with Patetonga community members as regards to the upgrade.


Swimming Pool Update

The Park and Reserves Manager presented pool usage statistics on the over the summer period.

The pool toy has encouraged more people to use the pool. Schools are now using the pool regularly since returning for the 2013 year.

A discussion was held regarding the rotation of the pool toy for usage over the next summer period.

Cr Harris asked the Parks and Reserves Manager contact lifeguards thanking them for the great job they did over summer period.


Sports Co-ordinators Report

Julie Stephenson was in attendance to update the members on the activities and upcoming events in the Plains Ward.

The meeting closed at 10.00am.
