The item was not on the agenda because the item was unavailable at the time of the agenda deadline.

Discussion on the item could not be delayed because confirmation of the appointee to the Committee required consideration as soon as practicable.

REQUESTS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Chief Fire Officer writes advising that the force is holding their annual honours night to thank those that have helped and sponsored them and to thank the crew for their hard work.

The officer asks the Ward for a grant of $500.00 towards this event.

RESOLVED

THAT $500.00 be granted from the Waihi Ward Discretionary Fund to the Whiritoa Volunteer Rural Fire Force Inc. in support of their annual Honours Night.

The Development Officer of the Trust writes advising that they plan to hold the second annual duathlon in Waihi on Sunday 1 August 2010. The route will be the same as last year and they hope to raise funds for the Trust and for Waihi Rugby Club.

The writer also advises that they are seeking sponsors for the event to cover the associated costs such as timing device ($150), race bibs ($150) race packs, spot prizes, advising and St Johns Ambulance. They seek Council’s support for this community event.

RESOLVED

THAT $500.00 be granted from the Waihi Ward Discretionary Fund to Sport ‘n’ Action Waihi in support of their second annual duathlon to be held in Waihi on Sunday 1 August 2010.

SALVATION ARMY WAIHI CORP [533726] (32 KB)

The Captain for the Corps wrote seeking a grant to cover the cost of refuse fees in December 2009. The decision of the Waihi Ward committee at the 9 February 2010 meeting was that the request be reconsidered in July 2010.

With less call for financial assistance than anticipated this term, the Committee were asked to reconsider the request for assistance from the Salvation Army Waihi.

RESOLVED

THAT $1,000.00 is granted from the Waihi Ward Discretionary Fund to the Salvation Army Waihi Corp. to cover the cost of refuse fees.

Trust Waikato – Mobile Art Caravan

The Chief Executive for Trust Waikato writes advising that they have purchased a piece of public art called "Holidays at Huntly" by acclaimed sculpture Peter Lange. The Trust would like to offer this art for public display around the region and asks if Council would be interested in having it in our district for a short period.

The members were in support that the caravan be displayed in the town centre. It was suggested that it be displayed over the summer period when the summer arts festival is held from November 2010 to January 2011.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward supports that he Trust Waikato Mobile Art caravan is displayed in the town centre at a location to be confirmed during the period November 2010 – January 2011.

Waihi Community Vision AGM

The members were advised that the public meeting for the biennial appointment of four public members will be advertised prior to the next meeting of the Waihi Community Vision group.


STRATEGIC PLANNING

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND LIQUOR CAMPAIGN - WAIHI (CR LEONARD) (568811) (35 KB) Adobe Acrobat PDF document

The Policy Analyst presented a report and requested the Ward Committees approval of a campaign to raise awareness of the effects that liquor related domestic violence has on youth.

A team of people have worked in support of the campaign, and as a token of appreciation, it was requested that funding be provided to purchase gifts for three of the team members.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received; and

THAT the Waihi Ward Committee provide a thank you gift to three members of the ‘Domestic Violence and Liquor Campaign’ working party to the value of up to $60.00.

LATE ITEMS OF BUSINESS


COUNCIL REPRESENTATION ON WAIKINO LIAISON COMMITTEE

Due to the recent change in the community membership of the Waikino Liaison Committee, the Liaison Committee has requested confirmation of Councils appointee to the committee

It was agreed that as Cr Hayden is the current Council appointee that he remain in the role until the triennial election.

The meeting closed at 3.30pm.
