MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE PLAINS WARD COMMITTEE WILL BE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 10 MARCH 2015 COMMENCING AT 9.00 AM

CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2015 (1319731)

RESOLVED

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Plains Ward Committee held on Tuesday 10 February 2015 are confirmed and are a true and correct record.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Roading Report – Unallocated Funds

Cr Leonard requested that clarity and definition of what the unallocated funds are for and how they are funded was required. Cr Leonard and Cr Gordon agreed to discuss this further with the Corporate Services Manager and will report back on the outcome of their meeting in due course.

World War I Commemoration Projects

Discussion was held on the list of proposed projects suggested for the district WWI commemorations which were agreed to at the Council meeting of 25 February 2015.

The Committee discussed options for signage for the memorial wall. The preferred option of wording was; "There Names Shall Live Forever". Staff advised the number of names has increased to 149 which will increase the estimated cost of project to $10,000.

They agreed that an additional 16 WW100 flags be purchased.

The Community Services monthly report on activities for the month of February 2015 was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

THAT the Community Services monthly report be received.

REQUEST FOR FINANICAL ASSISTANCE

Goldfields School (1329638, 1329640)

Correspondence was received from the Principle of Goldfields School requesting sponsorship for their redevelopment project. The school needs to raise $250,000 to ensure a safe and therapeutic learning environment for students with special needs.

RESOLVED

THAT the correspondence from Goldfields School be received, and

THAT the Plains Ward Committee refer the request of funding from Goldfields School to Council as it was considered the school supports the district as a whole.

Social Initiatives Project

The Community Liaison Officer updated the Committee on the scoping of the social initiatives project, advising that Katy Hurd who has been recruited for the role to manage the project had started that day.


WARD PROJECTS

Turua Jetty Renewals

The Parks and Reserves Manager updated the members on the costing of the upgrade of the Turua jetty.

It was suggested that any surplus funds from the jetty project be used towards the upgrade of the car park as this is to be upgraded in the 2015/16 year.

Application for Tree Removal on 1851 East Coast Road, Kaiaua

At the 10 February 2015 meeting, a presentation was made to the Ward Committee by Mr Gary Murphy and Mr Murray Kemp seeking reconsideration of the Committee’s decision made at the 12 August 2014 meeting not to remove two Pohutukawa trees planted on Council reserve land adjacent to their properties on East Coast Road, Kaiaua.

Following further deliberations, the Ward Committee concluded that the decision made at the meeting of 12 August 2014 stand and that no further discussion as regards to the decision is held.

RESOLVED

THAT the decision made at the Plains Ward Committee meeting of 12 August 2014 remains, and

THAT the Community Services Manager writes to the Mr Murphy advising of this decision.

Kaiaua Residents Group – Resurfacing of Kaiaua Tennis Courts (1329363, 1329366)

A request has been received from Penny Corbett, representing a group of Kaiaua residents wishing to revitalise the tennis courts at Kaiaua. The group request consideration by way of financial support towards the resurfacing of the tennis courts. A copy of a quote from an asphalt resurfacing contractor was attached for the member’s consideration.

RESOLVED

THAT the Parks and Reserves Manager and Cr Swales meet with Penny Corbett to discuss the appropriate way forward in regards to their application for funding towards the resurfacing of the Kaiaua tennis courts.
