THAT pursuant to Section 46A(7) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the following late items be accepted for discussion.

- Waihi Athletic Rugby Football & Sports Union (Inc) - Request for Funding Assistance

The item was not on the agenda because the item was unavailable at the time of the agenda deadline.

Discussion on the item could not be delayed because the organisation making the request required a decision from the Committee regarding availability of funding so as to ensure field lighting was upgraded for this season’s competition.

Morgan Park – Netball Courts

The resurfacing of the Waihi netball courts and construction of the new court and practice area has been completed. During construction of the new court, staff became aware of a number of issues and had discussed these on site with Ward representatives, as follows:

  • Ponding of water on pathway at entrance to courts
  • Fencing required on Kenny Street side of courts

RESOLVED

THAT $4,941.17 be approved for the repair of the pathway at the entrance to the courts where water was ponding with hot mix seal; and

THAT $4,566.66 be approved for the construction of a fence on the Kenny Street side of the courts.

Transition Town Waihi - Request for Funding Assistance for Leaf/Mould Composting Project

Last year Transition Town Waihi collected leaves during autumn in Councils Parks and Reserves to make mulch, providing a service to the community by removal of leaf fall and providing mulch.

This year, Transition Towns Waihi is again providing this service to the community and is requesting support from Council. The group sought woolsacks or the funds to purchase them for this work. The cost is estimated at $340.00.

RESOLVED

THAT $340.00 is granted to Transition Town Waihi in support of their leaf/mould composting project from the Waihi Ward Discretionary Fund.

RIVERBANK WALKWAY DEVELOPMENT – ROSEMONT ROAD TO WELLINGTON STREET (CR BAKER) (560117) (28 KB) Adobe acrobat PDF document

A report from the Community Services Manager regarding the Rosemont Road to Wellington Street riverbank walkway development was presented. A copy of an aerial photograph of the area showing the proposed location of the walkway was tabled.

The Community Services Manager outlined the legalities relating to the issue concerning the right of public access to the Rosemont Road to Wellington Street walkway.

To address the ongoing issue of access at the location, it was agreed that a footpath be formed of metal with timber boxing. It was also agreed that that appropriate signage advising of the presence of the walkway be installed and that no park line marking be applied onto the roadway to stop vehicles parking at the end of the road across the entrance to the walkway.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received; and

THAT the construction of a formed pathway of metal with timber boxing be approved to better define the public walkway from private property; and

THAT the District Engineer and Roading Manager investigate the installation of appropriate signage and road marking to prevent vehicles parking at the end of Rosemont Road where it meets the walkway.

The Roading Manager and District Engineer presented a report regarding minor safety projects for consideration in the Waihi Ward.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received; and


Pedestrian Safety - Old Waitekauri Road, Waikino

THAT the road side safety improvements recommended by the Opus report for Old Waitekauri Road be considered in the context of Waikino as a whole; and

THAT input from the Waikino Liaison Committee be sought; and


Kenny Street Parking near SH 2

THAT the preferred parking improvements in Kenny Street not be proceeded with.

WAIHI ATHLETIC RUGBY FOOTBALL & SPORTS UNION (INC) - REQUEST FOR FUNDING ASSISTANCE (562907)

A letter from the President of the Waihi Athletic Rugby Football and Sports Union (Inc) was tabled. The organisation seeks funding assistance towards the upgrade to field lighting at Rugby Park in Waihi. To install the lights an upgrade to the current system including the installation of a ballast and meter boxes is required at an estimated cost of $3,500.00.

RESOLVED

THAT the correspondence be received; and

THAT $3,500.00 be granted from the Community Facilities and Recreational Development Fund to the Waihi Athletic Rugby Football and Sports Union (Inc) in support of their field lighting system upgrade.
