CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES
THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Western Plains Drainage District Committee held on Tuesday 27 October 2009 be taken as read and confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
Member Representation – Area 1
The Chairperson introduced Mr Don Swales from Miranda/Kaiaua who has agreed to stand in for Darryl Cox in his absence.
THAT Mr Don Swales be co-opted to represent Area 1 of the Western Plains Drainage District for the remainder of the term.

Hopai West Pump Auto Reset
The automatic reset has not been attended to as the electrician has not been available.
Grounds Levels in Peat Mining Licence
The ground levels in the licence area have been checked and found to be generally above the minimum specified in the licence conditions.
Phillips Road Culvert
Robert Hicks confirmed that this culvert is the primary responsibility of Environment Waikato.
DRAINAGE REPORT (525762)
The monthly report from the Drainage Manager was presented for the Committee’s consideration.
THAT the report be received.
WPDD09/54 Challis/Harris CARRIED
The Committee was updated on the progress of the feasibility study undertaken by OPUS Consultants.
EW-Waihou-Piako Catchment Liaison Subcommittee Meeting
The Chairman expanded on the financial reserves position of the two river schemes.
Waitakaruru and Mahuta Drain Stopbank Levels
Council’s Technical Services Department are presently working on the survey of these stopbanks.
Waitakaruru Public Meeting
The Committee requested the Drainage Manager set a date for a public meeting to be held in early in March 2010, with a start time of 10.00am.
There is no financial report available. The Committee were concerned that the lack of financial reporting continues to be ongoing.
The members were invited to comment on any general drainage issues of interest in their areas.
Guy Speedy - Ngatea equaliser drain requires machine cleaning.
Peter Paterson – advised that his farm boundary drain was completed well.
Robert Hicks - culverts on Hopai Road to be constructed and lowered. He requested that a capital works programme be included in the Drainage Manager’s report.
The Drainage Overseer noted that there were still problems with farming activities restricting access to drains for maintenance, and rubbish is still being deposited in drains.
Roberts Hicks left the meeting at 11.50am.
Cr Harris took the chair.
It was agreed that a Christmas dinner be held on the evening of Wednesday 9th of November at the Ngatea Hotel.
Tour of Kaiaua
It was agreed that the Committee undertake a tour of the Kaiaua drainage areas in the New Year.
The meeting closed at midday.
