Digging it in
With the finish line in sight, our crews have been digging it in this week to try and complete the new Ngatea town centre footpath before Christmas. All going to plan it looks as though the bulk of the concrete will be poured in time, leaving the finishing touches to be completed early in the new year.
You may have noticed some areas of the footpath look a bit unfinished - that's because they're not finished! Next week we'll make a start on treating the areas of yellow concrete to bring out the colour. We'll also tidy up a few areas where the work isn't quite up to scratch. By the time we're done, we'll have poured about 4,500 square metres of concrete, so it's no surprise we need to do a few touchups.
Moratorium from 23 December to 5 January
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has a moratorium on road works on State Highways from 23 December to 5 January. This means we have to pack up and remove all our traffic management cones and fencing so the roads are clear for the Christmas holiday traffic.
Update on the upgrade to State Highway 2 in Ngatea
We've received a reminder from NZ Transport Agency that the last stage of work to complete the upgrade to State Highway 2, will begin after Waitangi weekend. They say the decision to finish the work in February was made after listening to the business community, who would like to wait until the busiest part of the holiday season is over.
The last stage of the project involves laying new asphalt in the westbound land of SH2 between Paul Drive and Pipiroa Road, a distance of about 400 metres.
The completion of this project was initially scheduled for last year but was delayed due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
Thanks for continuing to be kind, courteous and respectful to our crews so they can do their best to get the job done as quickly as possible.
