From Friday 10 July our yellow pre-paid rubbish bags will increase in price by 20 cents from $2.80 to $3.00 to help meet the increase in rubbish disposal operational costs.

Focusing on the three R's

We've kept the increase to a minimum in keeping with our goal to reduce financial pressure on our communities. Focusing on the three R's - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle is a great way to reduce your rubbish at home and at work.

“Rubbish is an inevitable fact of life – everyone generates waste, but there’s a lot we can do to reduce what we generate. If we all made an effort to minimise our waste at home or at work, this will not only benefit our environment but save our communities the cost of getting rid of our waste too,” said Mayor Toby Adams.

Small changes can make a big difference

Making small changes to what you buy or grow can make a big difference to how much goes into your rubbish bag. Did you know it’s Choose to Refuse single-use plastic month? There’s no better time to rethink how you can reuse plastic or reduce your reliance on it. Check out www.plasticfreejuly.org for inspiration. It’s all about avoiding landfill waste, reducing your eco-footprint and protecting the ocean.
