We have been advised by NZ Transport Agency that State Highway 2 will be closed at Ngatea on Friday with a detour in place from 9am to 3pm for the resurfacing of the Piako River bridge. This is one of the last pieces of work to be completed, until contractors return in summer for the final surfacing of the westbound lane between the primary school and Kohunui street. Here's the official Traffic Bulletin.
Be prepared: State Highway 2 closed at Ngatea, Friday 5 June
To enable asphalt resurfacing on the Paiko River bridge in Ngatea State Highway 2 (over the bridge) will be closed 9am to 3pm, Friday 05 June.
During the closure westbound traffic will be detoured via Bush Rd to SH25 at Pipiroa, with access to Ngatea via Pipiroa Rd. Eastbound traffic on SH2 can use SH25 via Pipiroa to bypass the closure. While the bridge is closed, eastbound traffic can still access the Ngatea shopping area using SH2.
Please plan ahead, check with NZTA traffic info.
Local traffic is able to access all other areas of Ngatea, with all businesses remaining open throughout the work.
