On the home stretch - Gearing up for stage three
(from the pedestrian crossing outside primary school to just before Pipiroa Road)
Preparation work for the third stage of the Ngatea main street road renewal kicked off on Thursday 5 March. Work started in the eastbound lane (Auckland to Bay of Plenty) and all going to plan, asphalt surfacing of this area will take place from Sunday 8 March to Monday 16 March. After that Higgins will start work on the westbound lane (from Bay of Plenty to Auckland).
One lane detour remains in place
Traffic will remain at one lane through Ngatea while stage three road renewal work takes place.
Road renewal on track for April finish
Weather permitting, the road renewal work is on track to be completed by the first week of April. After that, Higgins will begin work on the parking bays.
Finishing touches expected late April
The final surface layer of asphalt is expected to be laid the length of the main street (Piako River bridge to just before Pipiroa Road) in late April, followed by road marking. This will mark the end of the NZ Transport Agency part of the main street upgrade.
Footpath replacement - thanks for your feedback on proposed footpath design
Once the road renewal work is finished Hauraki District Council will be replacing the footpath in 100m sections. Community feedback on the proposed footpath design closes today. Thanks to everyone who contributed their ideas.
Thankfully, this part of the project will be much less disruptive to businesses and the community than the current work.
