We're happy to say we're past halfway and it looks likely we'll have the entire Ngatea town centre footpath finished before Christmas. All going to plan our crews won't be back at all in the new year, but there is a chance they may have to return to finish planting and tidy up a few loose landscaping ends. We'll let you know how we're tracking closer to the time.

Burning the midnight oil

While you've been sleeping our crews have been working, sometimes until 3am, to help minimise disruption to businesses during the day. We're also continuing to have one on one meetings with business owners to discuss issues on a case by case basis and talk about how we can keep working together to find a good balance between getting things done and disruption to the town.

Oops, we have to do it again

Last week we mentioned a couple of sections of footpath that hadn't set quite right due to some unexpected overnight downpours. We've tried a few things to fix these areas (outside the tavern and butcher's shop) but they still don't make the grade, so we're going to have to double back and pour them again. At this stage, we're planning to do that work early next week.

If it's raining, we're not pouring

While this week's weather has made us all wish we were at the beach, next week isn't looking so flash. If there's even a hint of rain, we won't be pouring concrete - it's not worth the risk of having to dig up what we've done and start all over again. We'd rather do it once, and do it right.

Practical makes perfect

We've based the footpath design and materials on your feedback. Earlier this year, we asked you to choose from a range of designs and options and we heard that you wanted to use simple, robust and local materials with coloured inlays in selected areas.
