We're getting behind Recycling Week and we hope you will too.

It's all about encouraging people to be conscious about why they choose what they buy and how they get rid of the packaging of those buying decisions. By adopting great buying/recycling habits we can all create a waste free future for New Zealand. Now wouldn't that be an incredible thing!

Now in its 9th year, Recycling Week is an important reminder of the difference we can each make to the health of our environment, (but let’s not just make it for a week, let’s make it for a lifetime).

To participate, just follow the daily recycling challenge!

Each day of the week will focus on a different element of recycling

Monday 19: Only purchase what is made to be recycled!

Tuesday 20: Make a conscious effort to not use your waste bin. Be sure to recycle or compost any items that have an end of life solution.

Wednesday 21: Go to work or school with a waste-free lunch. Try and go for zero packaging and only use reusable containers.

Thursday 22: Clean all containers and packaging to be recycled. Un-clean (contaminated) products often do not get recycled.

Friday 23: Keep all waste items and weigh it before disposing at the end of the day. Multiply the weight of waste by 365 days, consider that for the population of New Zealand.

Weekend: Take the time to identify everything that can be reused, re-purposed, recovered or recycled e.g. get the whole family involved and rid your home of all unwanted items that others may be able to use or indeed be grateful for. Take all unneeded items to your nearest Sallies/City Mission, list them on sites like Trademe or take it to the local clothing bin or resource recovery centre.
