“Please allow a little extra time for your building consent to be processed.”
That’s the message from Hauraki District Council Group Manager Community Development Peter Thom, who says council staff have been snowed under with building consents all summer.
“Building consent numbers are around 30 per cent higher than last year, and there’s no sign of that easing,” he said.
“It’s great to see so much activity in our district, but it does mean that we’re struggling to meet our usual 20 working day processing timeframes.”
Contractors have recently been engaged to lend a hand, but people can still expect to wait about 25 working days for their building consent.
“Our staff are working hard to reduce consent timeframes so you can get on with your building projects as quickly as possible, Thom said.
He puts the increase down to a national boom in the construction industry.
“We appreciate your patience while we get on top of this issue, which appears to be happening right across the country.”
