New Waihi mining proposal shared with Council

Big waves and strong winds are expected to arrive along the Eastern Coromandel coastline this afternoon and last for about a week.

People advised to stay away from beaches

Combined with high and king tides it’s likely the storm event will cause inundation, storm surge, erosion of beaches and damage to the foreshore in the upper Coromandel. People are advised to stay well away from beaches, especially around the high tide.

"While neither Whiritoa or Kaiaua are included in the MetService warning area, locals should be vigilant when near the beach or coastal waterways," says our Council's Civil Defence Controller Campbell Moore.
