We're putting the finishing touches to the intersection of Mackay Street and Normanby Road (SH2) in Paeroa. Weather permitting, the work will take approximately 3 weeks to complete, starting on 27 September 2021.
Mackay Street will be closed to traffic between 8am-5pm Monday to Friday at times during the construction period. It’s expected the first week will require the road closure every day and after that intermittently until completion.
From the 27 September our Works team and contractors will be on site, carefully following all Covid-19 health and safety requirements to get the job done with a minimum of disruption to businesses and pedestrians.
What are we doing?
At the moment, there are signs on Normanby Road (SH2) advising no right turn into Mackay Street (that's to prevent a build up of traffic on the State Highway while a car waits to turn). We'll be extending out the curb at the Mackay Street/Normanby Road intersection to physically prevent a right hand turn from Normanby Road into Mackay Street.
While we're there, we'll also upgrade two of the older planter boxes along Mackay Street to match the rest of the beautiful landscaping.
We need to give 14 days notice of road closures so our team were out and about notifying affected businesses yesterday.
Access to Willoughby Street and the Paeroa Domain
It shouldn't be too disruptive for pedestrians so you'll still be able to enjoy access along Mackay Street to get to the laundromat, restaurant, library, church and Paeroa Domain.
Motorists can access Willoughby Street off Normanby Road via Hall Street or Arney Street (SH26)
