Our Local Alcohol Policy review opens on Tuesday 19 April and closes for written feedback at 4pm on Friday 20 May 2022. It's full bodied and well rounded, but is it to your taste? Let us know.
Important policy for community well-being
The policy provides direction on the sale and supply of alcohol in our district and includes things like maximum trading hours and where new licenses can't be issued if close to things like schools, daycares etc.
It's an important policy that helps prevent further alcohol related harm in our district. The data that has been made available to us by key central government agencies so far suggests our current Policy has been working well to reduce harm from alcohol in our communities.
However we need to check in with our wider community to see if that the Policy is meeting your needs too.
What we’re proposing
Proposed changes to the existing policy include:
- A clause that clarifies that RSA’s may trade on ANZAC Day from 4:00am to 1:00pm, this is already provided for in the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.
- The removal of the clause which sets a maximum amount of special licenses one applicant or a single licensee can apply for in a 12-month period.
Other changes are purely administrative and create clarity but do not alter the intent of any of the existing clauses.
Written submissions close at 4pm Friday 20 May 2022
You can comment on any other aspect of the Local Alcohol Policy too. All the policy documents and submission forms are available on our website or in our offices and libraries. Once written submissions close at 4pm Friday 20 May, you can still make a booking to present your feedback in person at the Council meeting on Wednesday 15 June 2022 by calling us on 07 862 8609 or 0800 734 834.
