Mayor

One to be elected across the Hauraki District
Candidates

TobyAdams

Toby Adams

My principal place of residence is in the Hauraki District Council area.

There will be a change.
I'm excited to be running for mayor of Hauraki District following 9 years serving as a councillor (the past three as deputy mayor). During this time, I have learnt the ropes, but also used my initiative to think outside the box and create change where I've had influence, such as working with NZTA to trial a roundabout at Paeroa and improve traffic flow at the big bottle.
I enjoy being part of a team, I've established national, regional and community relationships, and I look forward to continuing with what works, while also bringing a fresh approach to our council and keeping an eye on the future. The district is growing which brings new and emerging opportunities, as well as challenges we'll need to face together because you know your communities best. Our place is already a great place to live, let's make it even better.

Josie Anderson

My principal place of residence is in the Hauraki District Council area. I am also standing for Paeroa Ward.

I have lived and worked all my life in Hauraki.
Transforming communities is my motivation. With major Iwi settlements imminent, Māori representation at Council's governance table is crucial; building new relationships and alliances that will positively impact the District and lives of every constituent, an obligation. This is the catalyst for my candidacy. I have led the formation of several influential Māori organisations in this district and held governance, management and directorship roles, notably as a member of the Waitangi Tribunal, Waikato Conservation Board and Trust Waikato, Hauraki Māori Trust Board Chief Executive and Te Korowai Hauora trustee. Currently I am chairperson of the Hauraki Women's Refuge, and Tirohia Marae, a Tikapa Moana Enterprises director, Treaty Settlement Negotiator for Ngāti Hako and Justice of the Peace. If elected, the responsible stewardship of our District's people, land, water and climate would remain my primary focus. It's time Māori leadership stepped forward.

District Council Members

Four councillors to be elected in the Plains Ward
Candidates
RayBroad

Ray Broad

My principal place of residence is in the Plains Ward area.

People speak of events that change the world, however what happens in our community concern us more. This was recently demonstrated with the proposed changes to the Council Office/Library building in Ngatea. This issue highlighted a genuine concern with residents that the Council was not listening. Being part of 'The Library Group', fortunately we gave the residents a voice. I am standing for Council to represent that Hauraki Plains voice.
This includes all our communities in the Plains Ward, representing all residents, listening to their concerns, so they are heard. Through good communication, management skills and problem solving, I believe together we can make a difference.
Born, bred and schooled on the Hauraki Plains and living in Ngatea with my family, I have the desire to represent all the Hauraki residents, listen to their concerns and be their voice at Council.
So, you having a voice starts now.

My principal place of residence is not in the Plains Ward area.

I was honoured three years ago to be selected by the people of the Plains Ward to represent them in Council. I have enjoyed the last three years, learned a huge amount and would like to continue to represent you. The two portfolios in my care during
this term have been Civil Defense and Land Drainage. I am very passionate about both of these, but especially Land Drainage as the maintenance and function of this, and the flood protection assetts (which are owned and managed by Waikato Regional
Council) are vitally important to the businesses and Communities of the Hauraki Region. I am proud to have been a part of some significant improvements in this sector and also involved in improving and building better relationships with WRC. I feel, if given the opportunity, I can definitely add a lot more value and continue this work on your behalf.

Ross Harris

My principal place of residence is in the Plains Ward area.

Representing the Plains ward over the last three years has been exciting, and a journey in which I have been able to utilise my skills and foster new understanding. During my experiences I have taken the time to develop a deeper sense of the people and our community. Consequently, I am mindful of the need to approach decision making in a holistic manner to ensure the current and future needs of our community are addressed.
This belief has grown from experience as a member of Council alongside my 35 years' Corporate experience but more importantly as a husband, father and grandfather within our community. I feel strongly that we must ensure that future generations will value the decisions we have made on their behalf. It is about what is happening today and what needs to happen for our tamariki and our mokopuna in the future.

CaroleDaley

Carole Anne Daley

My principal place of residence is in the Paeroa Ward area.

Standing as a second term Councillor for the Paeroa Ward.
Currently hold the Property Portfolio for Hauraki covering Kaiaua to Whiritoa. Balancing budgeted monies, while complying with regulations and expectation, is challenging.
Presently a Committee member setting Social Strategy for Hauraki, acknowledging social responsibilities and general wellbeing for residents and visitors to the District.
I believe it will be crucial for the future to continue the upgrade of ageing infrastructure, while monitoring costs of new developments. Roading, water, waste water and refuse will continue to challenge budgets.
Attributes of local knowledge and experience, incorporating 3 years' service, gives me confidence to consider returning as a second term Councillor.
Relevant qualifications, include managing two exporting companies. Private Secretary to Chairman of a New Zealand dairy company. Supervisor building two thirds of Hauraki Rail Trail around Paeroa and Financial Administrator for our family business of 30 years based in Paeroa.

My principal place of residence is in the Paeroa Ward area.

I have been a Paeroa Ward councillor for the past 15 years. At 37 years old I am one of the younger current councillors. I believe I have made a valuable contribution to council through various committees. This includes being the chair of Paeroa Ward Working Party, chair of Hearings and Judicial committee, chair of the District Licensing committee, deputy chair of Community Services and Development committee, member of the Economic Development Committee and council appointee to Positive Paeroa. I have a keen interest in Policy Development. I am married to Hannah and together we have one daughter, Amelia. We work in our family business, Caltex Paeroa, which allows me time away to attend to the busy council meeting schedule. In my free time I enjoy playing golf as well as running to keep fit. I look forward to working hard for the district if re-elected to a sixth term.

This community is my whanau. Our little family moved to Paeroa in 2012 and we have been fortunate to participate in this amazing community. I worked for Council from 2012 to 2016 in finance and caught the bug for community service.
Having worked for myself since then, I feel I have the skills and life balance to serve you on Council. I believe in open communication, financial prudence and affordability, and future-proofing our district. I will make myself available to the public, work hard for social equality and continue Council's goal of enhancing the mana of our tamariki and te whenua. I understand local government process and procedure. I want to involve you and your needs in our decision-making.

Candidates
PaulAnderson

Paul Anderson

My principal place of residence is in the Waihi Ward area.

I have been a successful businessman for over 25 years and set up Diamonds on Seddon 15 years ago. My business statement is success through honesty and integrity and I live by those values throughout all aspects of my life.
My vision for Waihi is a vibrant town that cares for its people and encourages and supports both new and existing businesses, which in turn will create employment opportunities. I believe I have the experience and skills to help achieve this.
I am standing for councillor because of the support I have had to make our business a success.
It is now time to give back, something I am keen and ready to do.

My principal place of residence is in the Waihi Ward area.

Being a '20 something' and proudly working and living in our district, I am passionate about Hauraki, its people and its natural beauty. We are lucky to live in such an amazing district, though moving forward the Hauraki faces huge challenges as it tackles head-on the effects of climate change and environmental challenges. This is no small task.
Driven through my involvement in the Young Elected Members Network over the last triennium, I am passionate about meaningfully working with all members of our community alike as we strive to make Hauraki the best district it can be.
I believe by helping our diverse communities, businesses and Council work together we can build a bright and prosperous future for both ourselves now and for future generations in our district.

Kia Ora
Hauraki is our place, Waihi is our home.
Being a long-time Hauraki resident I settled in the Waihi ward over 30 years ago with my wife, Ruth, where we raised our family of 5 children on our Whangamata Rd dairy farm. In addition, I worked as a pastor at Waihi Baptist Church for 14 years and a counsellor. We now enjoy having our 8 grandchildren nearby, operate a small grazing unit and continue our connection with Waihi East School and more recently Goldfields School in Paeroa.
As a candidate for the Waihi Ward, I offer: availability and energy, to serve the people of Waihi and Hauraki; skills, governance and leadership experience gained through a rich life and involvement with people, community organisations, school BOT and church.
Strengths identified as: strategic, relater, responsibility, connectedness and activator; and integrity, good character and open communication.

Duncan Smeaton

My principal place of residence is in the Waihi Ward area.

Farming is my life - dairying, agricultural research and consultancy. I am keenly interested in managing the tension between profitable food production, environmental protection and native biodiversity.
My first term as councillor has been a mix of admiration, frustration and curiosity. I am reassured that Council expenditure is tightly controlled and heavily rules based. I have enjoyed the opportunity to question and analyse council decisions and have developed a special interest in solid waste disposal. Things do not happen as quickly as I would sometimes like and I have to curb my impatience to match what is realistically possible.
If elected, I can add my recent Council experience to my skills which include management and financial planning, ability to get things done, communication skills, team work and a sense of humour.
My vision for Waihi is a sustainable, vibrant, caring and safe community.

Waihi is a great place to live and work and I want to see it get better and better. As your representative on the council, I will work to make sure that we get value for money for every single dollar we pay in rates and that nothing goes to waste. I will look for ways to enhance and promote Waihi's unique personality and make our town a popular destination, not just a stopover on the way to somewhere else. I will work to maintain and improve our parks and sports facilities and support events and activities that benefit all Waihi residents including our children and our elderly. I will do all I can to make Waihi a model of good living for towns all across New Zealand. I want to make our city grow better and better in every way it can. Can I count on your support?
