Hauraki District Council has been administering the Hauraki section of the District Plan and the Franklin section of the District Plan side by side from 1 November 2010. There are no plans to unify the two sections into one at this stage.
What this means on a practical level is that anyone who lives or operates in the former Franklin area* that is now part of the Hauraki District, for example landowners, developers, and builders, will continue to be bound by the Franklin section of the District Plan rules after 1 November 2010.
The Franklin Section rules will remain the same and will be enforced by the Hauraki District Council.
* Includes Waharau, Whakatiwai, Kaiaua, Pūkorokoro Miranda and neighbouring rural areas, now referred to collectively as the Wharekawa Coast.
The Franklin section of the District Plan provides a single set of resource management provisions that apply to all rural and urban areas in the Wharekawa Coast area of the District. Some of the provisions may affect you if you are wanting to build, subdivide or change the use of your land.
Note only some parts of the Franklin section of the District Plan are relevant to the Wharekawa Coast area. e.g. not all zones occur in the Wharekawa Coast area.
