REQUESTS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE


VICTORIA BATTERY TRAMWAY & MUSEUM [519300]

The President of the Society writes advising that they intend to expand their historic photographic displays of the Waikino-Karangahake area by constructing two walls in the battery. The society considers that with the anticipated increase in visitor numbers they must be ready to present the historical importance of the area.

The writer requests assistance with funding of $565.00 towards the cost of the panels.

RESOLVED

THAT the Waihi Ward Committee grants $565.00 to the Victoria Battery Tramway and Museum towards the cost of the panels for their historic photographic displays.

DYLAN and RACHEL SCHMIDT [519839]

The parents of Dylan and Rachel Schmidt write seeking sponsorship for them to represent GymSports New Zealand at the World Age Group Championships in Russia. Both have goals of representing New Zealand at the Olympic Games and need to experience World Championships in order to get the international experience necessary.

To attend the competition in St Petersburg Russia this month, Dylan and Rachel need to raise over $6,000.00 each; they seek sponsorship for this opportunity.

RESOLVED

THAT the Waihi Ward Committee grants $255.00 to each child to cover the cost of entry fees for their representation of NZ in the World Age Group Championships in Russia.

WAIKINO LIAISON COMMITTEE [521755]

The Secretary of the group writes advising that they intend to form an Incorporated Society. The fee for registering the society is $100.00; the writer seeks Council’s support for this cost.

RESOLVED

THAT the Waihi Ward Committee grants $100.00 to the Waikino Liaison Committee in support of costs to become an incorporated society.

NADIA TUZ [522379]

Nadia Tuz is a 13 year student of Waihi College who has been selected to represent the Thames Valley in the U15 girl’s basketball team. Nadia has also been selected for the North Pacific U15 team, and will compete in the Sydney Cup and Pacific Coast Slam in Australia next January.

Nadia writes seeking sponsorship toward the $2,823.00 that it will cost for the tour.

RESOLVED

THAT the Waihi Ward Comittee grants $150.00 to Nadia Tuz in support of her representation in the Thames Valley U15 girl’s basketball team competing in the Sydney Cup and Pacific Coast Slam in Australia next January.

Morgan Park Skate Park - Renovation

The Operations Manager advised that the renovation project is now complete. The project has also included the addition of a grind rail. The rail was constructed by the late son of a local resident who offered it for installation as part of the upgrade which was appreciatively accepted by the Ward Committee in 2004.

Staff advised that much positive feedback has been received from users of the facility to the upgrade.


WAIKINO SUSPENSION BRIDGE AND CAR PARK (CR BAKER) (521045)

A report and supporting information from the Community Services Operations Manager was presented for the consideration of the Committee.

The members were asked to consider a request received from the Waikino Liaison Committee seeking the Ward Committees support towards the construction of a suspension bridge and provision of a parking and a picnic area on the right bank of the Ohinemuri River located on State Highway 2.

After consideration of the request, the Committee supported ‘in principle’ that a suspension bridge be installed at the location and should the construction of a bridge go ahead, that funds be provided for a car parking and picnic area.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received, and

THAT the Waihi Ward Committee requests that Council supports ‘in principle’ the Liaison Committees wish to erect a suspension bridge across the Ohinemuri River at Waikino

THAT the Waihi Ward recommends to Council that should the bridge proceed, it funds the provision of car parking and a picnic area on the right bank of the Ohinemuri River in the location of the proposed bridge.

Walking and Cycling Strategy

As part of the Walking and Cycling Strategy, the Roading Manager presented the revised works programme resulting from the street tour which was undertaken by the Committee and staff in September 2009.

The members were invited to consider the proposed works shown in the programme and advise of any amendments they deemed necessary to be included in the final programme before it is released for public consultation.

The members proposed amendments to the programme were noted by the Roading Manager.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received.

THAT the revised schedule as part of the Walking and Cycling Strategy be released for public consultation with any amendments made by the Committee.
