Requests for Financial Assistance [CDV-30-100]
The organiser for the society has written requesting financial assistance to implement Stage 1 of the Flowering Cherry Tree programme.
The estimated cost to purchase 60 trees for planting both sides of Seddon Street from the Information Centre, east to the cul-de-sac and Gilmore Street is $2,100. The members were invited for their opinions on this location.
The members suggested that staff consider more options on where to plant the trees. One suggestion was to create a tree lined path from the Hauraki Rail Trail terminus to the Town Centre.
The Community Services Manager supported that the trees need to be planted in an area of significance and suggested if a decision on their location is agreed to soon, the trees could be planted in this planting season.
It was agreed that the matter be deferred and revisited at the next meeting to allow for further consideration of the location and when the trees could be planted.
The Mayor attended the meeting at 2.50pm.
The Fundraiser coordinator for the Trust has written seeking donations towards families struggling to finance their children’s participation in sport.
The Trust is an organisation that has been working in Waihi for over a year helping children participate in extra-curricular activities such as rugby, netball, hockey, swimming etc. Any donation the Trust receives goes to a non-profit organisation and to the local stores for sportswear. Donations are used to fund fees and/or gear.
THAT the Golden Steps Trust is granted $1,000.00 from the Waihi Ward Discretionary Fund with the proviso that the group become registered as an incorporated society, and
THAT the group be advised that individuals requiring assistance apply to them in the first instance and not to Council, and
