The Community Services monthly report on activities for the month of March 2015 was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

RESOLVED

THAT the Community Services monthly report be received, and

THAT the correspondence from Waihi Community Resource Centre Inc., Waihi Gold Discovery Centre Ltd., Waihi Lions and Waihi District Walkways Inc be received.

REQUESTS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Waihi Lions

The Waihi Lions club have written seeking help with the funding of their WW1 Centennial Poppy Project which they plan to have completed for ANZAC day.

RESOLVED

THAT $500.00 is granted from the Waihi Ward Discretionary Fund to the Waihi Lions in support of their WWI Centennial Poppy Project.

Waihi Community Resource Centre Inc. (1335045)

The Manager for the society has written requesting a contribution to the operational costs for their service to the community. This has come about due to a reduction in funding from external funding agencies.

The members agreed that as the centre provides a service to the district and not only the Waihi Ward, funding be contributed from the district.

RESOLVED

THAT the financial accounts of the Waihi Resource Centre be received, and

THAT the request from the Waihi Community Resource Centre be referred to Council as it was considered the centre provides a service to the district.

Waihi District Walkways Inc.: Request for Mowing (1338129)

A request has been received from Waihi District Walkways Inc for assistance in mowing two of the larger areas that they currently maintain. The cost to mow the Wellington Street Walkway area is $212.00 and Victoria Street is $70.00 per time. The cost of this would be a Ward funded activity and an unbudgeted item for the 2014/15 financial year.

Ruth Ordish, Secretary and two members of the Waihi District Walkways group, were in attendance in support of their request. The members also updated the Committee on completed and current projects being undertaken by their organisation and thanked the Ward Committee for the past support provided to them.

RESOLVED

THAT Council mows monthly the Wellington Street and Victoria Street sections of the Waihi Walkway until the 30 June 2015, and

THAT this be funded from the Waihi Minor Reserves Budget.

Social Initiatives Scoping Project

The Community Development Officer updated the members on the social initiatives scoping project.

Waihi I-Site Visitor Centre Six Monthly Report

A copy the operational report to April 2015 submitted by the Manager of the Waihi I-Site Visitor Centre was available. The members were advised that the Manager of the centre, Mr Eddie Morrow will attend the Ward meeting in May to update the members on the operation of the centre.

RESOLVED

THAT the Waihi I-Site Visitor Centre six monthly report be received.
