MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE WAIHI WARD COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2015 COMMENCING AT 2.30 PM

PRESENTATION: WORLD WAR I CENTENNIAL POPPY PROJECT
Mr Kevin Corney (President of Waihi Lions) was in attendance and spoke to a Waihi Lions project to erect poppies to commemorate each person who went from the Waihi district to service in World War I. The group wish to erect approximately 360 poppies on the Pit Rim Fence primarily in the area from the lookout to the pump house.
The Ward Committee supported the project and advised that they were agreeable to provide some level of funding if the club needed some assistance towards the cost of the project.
THAT the apology of His Worship the Mayor, J P Tregidga be received and sustained.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
Sport n Action Waihi – Request for Funding
The Ward requested income and expenditure details after the event, The request for money came from Sport n Action on behalf of the Nugget Multi Sport event in May. because Council was providing $500 to help fund the event.
The Community Services monthly report on activities for the months of December 2014/January 2015 was presented for the Committee’s consideration.
THAT the Community Services monthly report for the months of December 2014/January 2015 be received.

Request for grant in Lieu of Rates (1304534)
At the 9th December meeting, the Ward Committee requested more detailed information be provided from Mr Lloyd McGechie who had requested a grant in lieu of rates for his vacant section in Haszard Street, Waihi. Mr MeGechie has offered the section to the Waihi Resource Centre to use it as a temporary community garden.
Attached was a copy of the agreement regarding the use of the section between Mr McGechie and the Waihi Resource Centre.
THAT the correspondence from Lloyd McGechie be received, and
THAT Mr McGechie be charged the rural/residential rate whilst the land is being used as a community garden.

Social Initiatives Project
Staff advised that Katy Hurd Councils ex Policy Analyst will be taking on the project on a part time basis.
Corridor Improvement Plan for the Karangahake Gorge (Waihi to Paeroa)
NZTA, Council and community members met on 20 November 2014. The meeting was the first stage of the new process that NZTA now has to apply with the allocation of funding to projects.
Waihi Main Street Gardens
The day lilies in the main street have been cut and cleaned up after suffering with the intense heat over the summer.
Rubbish Bin Trial
Council staff are currently running a trial to investigate the potential savings Council could make by installing solar powered compactor bins.
A report from the District Engineer was presented on the proceedings of the Annual Whiritoa Public meeting that was held on Monday 26 January 2015 (Auckland Anniversary weekend).
THAT the report be received, and
THAT the agenda and staff report for the meeting be noted, and
THAT the comments and inquiries recorded at the meeting be noted and follow-up actions discussed and defined.
