ANZAC Day Commemoration Parades and Services are held around the District each year on 25 April.
Civic ANZAC Services & Parades Cancelled 2022
While the nation manages the impact of the Omicron outbreak, consideration of community safety and wellbeing has been at the forefront of conduction of Council activities. Under the current COVID Protection Framework (CPF), there are restrictions in place around event/gathering numbers.
Taking this into consideration, as well as the need to make early decision due to traffic management and event organisation timelines, the decision was made to cancel the district ANZAC Day Parades and Civic Commemoration services for this year. Though we still wish to honour this day, it is important that we do it in a way that is respectful, but also meets the Government COVID restrictions and guidelines.
Though we are extremely disappointed about the cancellations, we needed to consider the demographic of those in the community that would be attending the services and ensure they are kept safe.
Commemorating in a different way
We will help to commemorate ANZAC Day in a different way this year. Along with donations to our local RSA Poppy Fund in Ngatea, Paeroa and Waihi, a video collaboration with local actor and NZ icon Mark Wright will help mark the day.
