Register your dog
Register your dog for the first time
Your dog can only have one registered owner and you need to be 16 years of age or over.
All dogs must be registered by the age of three months. You are then required to renew your dog's registration by 1 July each year.
*Please note online payments are unavailable for dog registrations at this time.
To register your dog you'll need:
- to know what breed your dog is
- its age, colour and sex
- evidence of working dog classification (if applicable)
- whether it has been neutered (desexed), including any certificates to prove this
- whether it has been microchipped, including any certificates to confirm the microchip number
- any previous registration details, either under the name of a previous owner or with another council.
If you register a puppy for the first time part way through the registration year, you'll be charged a proportion of the annual registration fee based on when your puppy turned three months.
How to apply:
You can either register your dog online and we will be in touch to let you know the cost and how you can make payment.
Or visit one of our Council Service Centres. We will let you know the cost and how you can make your payment.
Renew your dog's registration
If your dog is currently registered with us, we’ll send you a registration form in the post early June.
If you have any CHANGES to make to your existing dogs or you have a NEW dog to register, complete the online form Notify a Change in a Registered Dog or contact Council first before making any payments. We’ll update the information and send you a new registration form so you can pay the correct fee. If your details on the form are correct you can either:
