Karangahake Reserve car park development
Construction commences: 21 November 2022
Completion: TBC
Hours of work: between 7.00am and 6.00pm
Project Purpose
This project intends to address the need for overflow car parking in the Karangahake Reserve area, particularly during the peak summer period.
Project Overview
The development of overflow car parking at what is known as Cornes Paddock (Karangahake) is required to meet the needs of visitors to the area, particularly over the summer period when there is not sufficient car parking within the area due to the popularity of the destination.
The site is located on the corner of Crown Hill Road and County Road in Karangahake. The Cornes Paddock site has previously been used in a temporary capacity as a seasonal grass car park.
It is proposed that the project is split into two phases; the car park development being stage one, and stage two being the development of a walkway from the car park back down to the Hauraki Rail Trail and Department of Conservation areas / wider Karangahake Reserve area.
Stage two is primarily to address the safety concerns of users walking or cycling down Crown Hill Road to the Karangahake Reserve area. Stage two however needs to be discussed and planned with LINZ and Iwi – phase two is to be confirmed.
