Is a Building or Resource Consent on your Christmas wish list?
Santa’s not the only one taking a break! By law, we pause building and resource consent processing over the holiday period.
The clock stops: 20 December 2026 – 10 January 2027. This means the standard 20 working day processing timeframe is paused during this time. Any applications still in progress by 21 December may also be put on hold until 10 January.
Get your application in early - don’t leave it to the last minute and find yourself waiting until the new year!
Building Inspections
Our building inspectors will be hanging up their hard hats for the holidays. There will be no building inspections: 22 December 2026 – 10 January 2027.
Land Information Memorandum (LIM) applications
Want your LIM sorted before Christmas?
You’ll need to get your application and payment in by these dates:
- 7 December 2026 for a Standard LIM (10 working days)
- 18 December 2026 for an Urgent LIM (2–3 working days)
The LIM process pauses from 20 December to 10 January, so applications received after these dates will be completed in the new year.
Holiday Deadlines for Special Alcohol Licences
Got a holiday event coming up? Make sure to plan before you pour! Special alcohol licence applications
must be submitted at least 20 working days before your event — and no late applications will be accepted.
- Apply by 20 November for events between 21 December and 25 January.
- Apply by 7 December for events between 26 January and 15 February.

We’re committed to being open and transparent - even over the holidays! But if you need information from us under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act, please get your request in early.
Submit your LGOIMA request by: 18 December 2026
The LGOIMA process pauses from 20 December until 10 January, so requests received after this date will be picked up in the new year.
