Council Controlled Organisations

A Council-Controlled Organisation (CCO) is a company, trust, or joint venture in which one or more local authorities hold a controlling interest - usually through at least 50% or more of voting rights or the power to appoint half or more of the governing body.

We use CCOs to help deliver services, manage assets, and support community and economic development. They operate at arm’s length from Council but remain accountable under the Local Government Act 2002 (LGA).

Ngā Kaupapa Māori

Our relationship with Hauraki iwi is foundational. It is grounded in partnership, respect, and a shared commitment to the wellbeing of people, whenua, and future generations.

Our intent

• Strengthen trusted relationships
• Support meaningful participation in decision-making
• Uphold commitments under Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• Work collaboratively toward shared environmental, cultural, social, and economic outcomes

Mana Whenua of Hauraki

There are twelve iwi of Hauraki, of which, seven have mana whenua within the Hauraki District Boundaries.

The seven iwi who have Mana whenua within the Hauraki District Council boundary are:

• Ngāti Hako
• Ngāti Maru
• Ngāti Pāoa
• Ngāti Porou ki Hauraki - Area of Interest
• Ngāti Tamaterā
• Ngāti Tara Tokanui and
• Ngaati Whanaunga
