Big changes (and big fun) coming to Kerepēhi Playground

Kerepēhi is getting ready for a playground transformation, shaped by local voices and designed for play, connection, and community fun.

From 7 April, we’ll be saying goodbye to the current playground as work begins on a brand-new space inspired by our tamariki. While it’s always a little sad to see the old playground go, it’s making way for something even better.

Last year, local tamariki shared their big ideas, creativity, and wish lists. We listened. Their input helped shape a design that’s full of fun and made for making memories – from climbing and playing to shooting hoops.

With a total investment of $321,000, including a $200,000 contribution from the Better Off Fund, this project will bring a new play space to life. Plans include a half basketball court and a new toilet block, creating a place where whānau can play, connect, and spend time together.

The community guided this project from the start. The first was at the Kerepēhi Community Hall, where locals came together to kōrero and explore the concept plans displayed through large photos and draft designs.

With tamariki at the heart of this project, a special hui was also held with them at Kerepēhi School in late July 2025.
