A step closer to football returning to Morgan Park

There is some encouraging news for football in Waihī, with planning continuing for a new football field and lighting at Morgan Park.

The project is not fully finalised yet, and there are still a few details to work through, but it is a positive step towards bringing football back to the heart of Morgan Park.

For Waihī AFC, this has been a long time coming. The club has been playing home games away from Morgan Park while wider work at the sports hub has progressed, and Council knows that has taken patience from players, volunteers, whānau and supporters.

The proposed field and lights would make it easier for the club to train, play and come together in one place again. It would also help support the next generation of local players.

“Our football users have had to travel to different grounds to play, so having a quality home ground here at Morgan Park will make a huge difference. It’s great to see the park being brought up to a standard that works for all of its users and the wider community.”

Council also knows how much people care about Morgan Park. It is a place with strong connections for many Waihī locals, and its future matters to the community.
