Water — check, conserve, and store
What Council is doing
Council has activated drought management planning and is monitoring water tank and reservoir levels across the district. Our water services, emergency management, and infrastructure teams are working with contractors and regional partners to prepare for dry conditions.
What you can do
- Check your tanks, pumps, and pipes — fix any leaks now, before water becomes scarce
- Start conserving water now, before any restrictions are needed
- Ensure you have at least 24 hours of on-site water storage as a buffer — this is especially important for rural properties on Council supply
- If you're farming, talk to your adviser or rural support network about feed and water budgeting
- Consider destocking early if feed and water supplies look like they may run short
Lower river levels and reduced water availability can directly affect farms, stock, and household budgets — so a bit of planning now goes a long way.
Conserving water is something we can all do everyday. We've pulled together some everyday conservation tips on our Smart Water use info page.
