Council opens up iconic spots for Mobile Food Traders
Hauraki District Council is inviting mobile food and beverage businesses to be part of a new economic development pilot — with trading spots now available at two of the district's most popular reserves.
The pilot will see designated mobile trading areas established one at the Karangahake Recreation Reserve and the other at the Ōhinemuri Reserve in Paeroa (next to the L&P bottle), running from 1 December 2026 through to 30 June 2027.
Council's Group Manager Community Development and Regulatory Peter Thom says the pilot is designed to support local businesses while also enhancing the visitor experience at two of the district's key attractions.
"We know these spots get real foot traffic — locals, visitors from around the region, and international tourists. We want to make the most of that and help our local food and beverage businesses do the same."
Coffee carts, food trucks and mobile catering businesses are encouraged to register their interest. Full details and guidelines are available on the info page on our website. EOIs close at 5pm on 5 November, 2026.
These trading spots have been made available following the successful completion of a resource consent process, allowing Council to formally open up these reserve sites for mobile food and beverage trading for the first time.
