Hauraki District Council is currently progressing through the transition to Waikato Waters, which will change how drinking water services are delivered in the future.
As part of this transition, Council is required under the Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025 to complete a Drinking Water Assessment. The assessment is to help understand how communities across the district access drinking water now and what challenges and opportunities may exist in the future.
The assessment looks at:
- Which communities receive drinking water services.
- The different types of drinking water services available.
- Current and future demand for drinking water.
- Potential future risks to water supply.
- The safety and quality of drinking water available to communities.
To build a complete picture, the assessment draws on information from a range of sources, including Council planning documents, water safety and demand management plans, asset management information, resident feedback, and data from drinking water regulator Taumata Arowai.
